Pupils of Ansar-Ud-Deen High School in Surulere, Lagos State, have received a state-of-the-art physics and chemistry laboratories from 1982 old students of the school.
The old students, led by Chairman of AHOSA ’82, Yinka Babalola, handed over the renovated and equipped laboratories to the school as part of activities to mark their 40th graduation from the school.
Speaking on the prize giving event to kick-off the programmes, Babalola said a 52 pupils in Science, Technology and Mathematics received books and N20,000 each.
He said old students pulled resources together to intervene in the dilapidated laboratories, adding “the goal is to further motivate pupils to learn …”
Babalola also said about 14 teachers, who taught them, would be rewarded.
“What we are doing is to signpost to the other side that this is what we can do … if every set that turns 40 does this, there would be consistent upgrade of the school,” he said.
Tutor General and Permanent Secretary of Education District 5, Prince Olusegun Osinaike, hailed the alumni for investing and partnering the state to improve learning.
School Headteacher, Dr. Shareefah Yusuf, one of the 1982 class, expressed her delight for the synergy between the state and stakeholders in education sector.
Highlight of the event was the motivational speech of guest speaker, Miss Tolu Makinwa, a tech entrepreneur, who said young people should be given a voice and supported with money as well as academically.
