Former Chief Hydrologist of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources Eng John Babatunde Omotunde is dead. He died of prostrate cancer in a Lagos hospital yesterday. He was 65.
Omotunde, born in Aramoko-Ekiti, Ekiti State, attended Amoye Grammar School, Ikere-Ekiti and University of Ife, (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where he obtained a degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1974.
He was awarded a postgraduate certificate in Hydrology at VITUKI Budapest, Hungary in 1977 and M.Sc in Water Resources Technology at the University of Birmingham, Edghaston, United Kingdom, in 1980.
After leaving the civil service, he served in Design and Construction Management in Kampe River Irrigation Scheme, Ogun Irrigation Project and Idewure Small Earth Dam.
He was Chief Technical Consultant of Kingswood Engineering Ltd from 2009-2011 and Turning Point Engineering Ltd from 2012.
Married to Lilian Yemisi and blessed with children, he was brother to Olubunmi Omotunde, Anglican Bishop of Ekiti Diocese Rev. Chris Omotunde, Oladipo Omotunde and General Manager (Corporate Services) of Vintage Press Ltd, Pastor Soji Omotunde.
