Some officials of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps have been arrested for allegedly torturing a 14-year old boy to death over missing N500.

The officials, who were posted to Ondo Town, allegedly tortured the victim, Ayomide Adeghalu, who was handed over to them by his stepmother.

The incident reportedly occurred at Ogbonkowo area of Odojomu in Ondo town.

It was learnt that the deceased hawked cooked rice for his stepmother but was unable to account for N500 after the day’s sales.

His stepmother reportedly flogged him and subjected him to series of punishments before she handed him over to some operatives of Amotekun Corps.

Sources said he was tortured until he became unconscious and was rushed to a hospital in the town, where he was confirmed dead by the medical doctors

Adeghalu was said to have been confirmed dead at the hospital he was rushed to.

Commander, Ondo Amotekun Corps and Special Adviser to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Security Matters, Adetunji Adeleye, could not be reached for comments but sources close to him said he ordered an orderly room trial for the arrested operatives.

It was gathered that Adeleye had directed that the affected officials be made to face the law.

The incident was reported at the Fagun Police Station and his body was deposited at the state specialist hospital morgue in the town.

Mother of the deceased, Mary Adeghalu, said she had divorced his father and left the boy to stay with the stepmother.

She said: “l was informed about the condition of my son and had to rush to the area to rescue him from those the stepmother handed him over to torture him over missing N500. I was surprised about the death of my son, Ayomide, because he was hale and hearty the last time I saw him.

“He never complained of any ailment; only to learn that he was tortured to death by some security officials over missing N500. My son was wasted simply because he couldn’t account for ordinary N500. I want justice.”

Ondo Police spokesman, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said she was yet to be briefed about the incident.
