Renown philantrophist and socialite in Ondo State, Dr. Rhoda Makinde, has put smiles on the faces of 1200 orphans in Ondo State.
Dr. Makinde distributed food, books, uniforms and clothings to the orphans through her non-governmental organization, Dr. Rhoda Makinde Initiative (DROMI) in an event tagged ‘Let the Orphans Be Glad’.
Rhoda stated that the event was a special project of DROMI with a deliberate attempt to cater for the orphans academic, feeding, clothing and other physiological needs.
She lamented increasing cases of orphans and vulnerable children in the country saying it has negative impact on the orphans physical and psychological well-being, school attendance, educational achievement, and development of knowledge, skills, and values for constructive participation in society.
According to her, “This includes finding money for school fees, food, clothing, and access to basic healthcare. Their desperation makes them more vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.
“So, It is important to give back to the orphans because they will grow to be accountable and responsible adults that will also give back to the community as they have been taught.
“Children are our future. Without them, our country and our world would go nowhere.”
“Our mission as DROMI is to lift women and children out of poverty, to empower them, promote gender equality, financial stability and to be able to contribute meaningfully to their
families and the society.”
Items distributed to each beneficiaries included a brand new bicycle, bag of rice, five cartons of noodles, school bag, note books among others.
One of the beneficiaries, Master Joel Ogunyemi said his live has changed for the better.
