One person has been confirmed dead and seven injured in an explosion at Gashua in Bade council of Yobe State.
Sources said the blast occurred in a bar in Abacha area of the town at about 8.00pm on Sunday night.
Boko Haram on Wednesday killed about 12 people in Geidam town also in a pub.
A resident of Gashua, Mohammed Sheriff, said the explosion was very loud.
“The sound was so loud that almost everyone that was awake at that time could hear it. The residents are afraid because you don’t know their next target,” he said.
The police command confirmed the attack, adding that the injured were admitted at General Hospital Gashua.
Spokesman of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Kennedy Anyanwu ruled out Boko Haram attack, saying the explosion was caused by a cooking gas.
“Our men on the ground have told us that the preliminary investigation showed that a cooking gas caused the explosion. Due to the current heat in the state, the possibility of a gas explosion is high especially if it is not well attended to. It’s not a Boko Haram attack,” Lt. Anyanwu said.
