Osimhen eyes another scoring feat against Sassuolo

Apart from aiming to help Napoli beat Sassuolo in today’s Serie A tie, Victor Osimhen will be eyeing another scoring record as the first Napoli player to score in seven consecutive league matches.

The Nigerian last week equaled Gonzalo Higuain’s record as the first Napoli player to score in six consecutive Serie A matches after the Nigerian netted his 17th goal in 19 appearances in Napoli’s 3-0 bashing of Cremonese.

At present as the highest goal scorer in the Serie A with 17 goals, Osimhen is edging closer to history as the first African to be crowned the highest goal scorer in the history of the Italian top flight.

Meanwhile, a foremost Italian journalist Massimo Ugolini has described the Nigerian as a more complete player than French superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Ugolini who works with Sky told ‘Radio Goal’ on Kiss Kiss Napoli that Osimhen can be better than Mbappe.

“Is Osimhen better than Mbappé? They are two different players morphologically and in terms of characteristics. In my opinion, Mbappé is more powerful as a finisher to see, but Osimhen is certainly more complete. In projection the Napoli forward is more complete than Mbappé, then he must prove it to be so at high levels as the PSG forward is doing,” he said.

He added: “Osimhen is not yet Mbappé’s level, but in terms of potential he can reach the level of the Frenchman and I repeat he is more complete. He has running, shooting, headers, physicality.”

He added: “At the beginning, even some of his teammates said ‘He’s very strong, he has power, but when you put the ball to him to block…’, now it’s different. Physically it’s not nice to see with those big feet, but then you see what he does with those big feet… just remember the matches with Roma.”
