Osimhen wins Serie A player of the week

For his consistency in front of goal coupled with his lethargic finish in the Serie A, Victor Osimhen has been named as the best player of the week 13 in the Italian topflight league.

Also, Osimhen’s 32nd Serie A goal for Napoli against Atalanta saw him emerge as Nigeria’s most prolific goalscorer in the Italian league ever.

The Super Eagles striker joined Napoli from Lille of France in a record transfer in 2020 and was on target for Napoli in their 3-1 bashing of Atalanta for coach Luciano Spalletti-tutored side to hold to the lead in the Serie A.

According to Tuttonapoli, Osimhen claimed the prize for best for the second consecutive week of match day 13 of the Serie A as well as making the list for the team of the week.

To emerge as the best, the Nigerian picked up eight points ahead of a teammate–goalkeeper Alex Meret, Giacomo Bonaventura (Fiorentina), Felipe Anderson (Lazio), Dany Mota Carvalho (Monza), Danilo (Juventus), and Filip Kostic (Juventus) who all garnered 7.5points.

Others that made the team of the week include Stefan Posch (Bologna), Alessio Romagnoli (Lazio), Carlos Augusto (Monza), and Adrien Rabiot (Juventus) with 7points each.

However, in yesterday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Osimhen has been hailed for his immense contribution to the fortune of Napoli.

“For two years, Naples had dreamed of this Osimhen. A striker capable of making the difference when playing on the edge of balance. And it happened at the Olimpico against Roma, as well as Saturday in Bergamo against Atalanta, the big matches of the latter period with which Napoli managed to create a deep groove in the standings: 6 points on the second, 8 on the third. Very heavy those of Osimhen and also of a certain beauty,” the paper wrote.
