. Nigerian ace in race for player of the month
Victor Osimhen’s last weekend’s goal against Roma in Napoli’s 2-1 home win has been adjudged Serie A goal of the month for January 2023.
Announcing to the Serie A organisers, Osimhen’s goal was described as a wonderful technical gesture.
In a statement on its website, the Serie A organisers said: “The goal scored by the Napoli forward in the match against Roma on 29 January was the most voted by fans on Lega Serie A`s official social channels. The fantastic control, followed by a great volley, allowed Victor Osimhen to surpass Okereke`s goals against Inter, Ederson`s against Salernitana, and Caprari`s against Sassuolo in the votes.”
Also, Osimhen has been listed among the five nominees for the Serie A player of the month in January 2023.
Other candidates in the race for the award include Paulo Dybala (Roma), Lautaro Martinez (Inter), Ademola Lookman (Atalanta), and Luis Alberto (Lazio).
In the analysis to select the nominees, the league organisers said: “The five players have been selected taking into account the advanced analysis of Stats Perform, created from the tracking data recorded with the Hawk-Eye system. The rating system, patented in 2010 with K-Sport and scientifically validated, considers not only statistical data and technical events but also positional data.
“This makes it possible to analyse crucial aspects such as movement without the ball and thus optimal movements, game choices, and the contribution to the technical and physical efficiency of the team, which allow for an objective and qualitative evaluation of the performance,” the statement stated.
The voting to choose the Player of the month for January will end on Sunday, February 5.
