The General Manager of the agency for Community and Social Development Project (CSDP) in Osun State, Mrs. Funmi Abokede, has disclosed that
the state government paid N650 million as counterpart funds to CSDP
between 2010 and 2015.
Abokede disclosed this yesterday while speaking on the significance of
the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
She noted that the administration of the Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesol,a had
been consistent in payment of counterpart funds for CSDP which is being jointly financed by the state government and the World Bank.
Speaking at a programme organised by CSDP to commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Aregbesola lauded Osun CSDP on its various initiatives to reduce poverty in the state.
Aregbesola expressed worry over the level of poverty in Nigeria and called on Nigerians to stand up for poverty eradication for betterment of the nation.
The governor said poverty was human creation, saying that there was enough wealth to sustain humanities but human resources are either underutilised or concentrated in the hand of few people.
He stated further that extreme poverty was a big reality which is affecting about 23 % of the world population, adding that 300 million people are in poverty in sub African while 80% of the population are Nigerians.
According to him, millions of children across the world are dying as a result of lack of drinkable water despite that 75% of the earth surface is covered by water.
He maintained that all the programmes of his administration since he assumed office, including O’yes, O’meal, O’real among others were targeted at poverty eradication.
His words: “while government would continue to do what it could, everybody should find something to do. Work is the antidote of puberty. We can see that the physically challenged are striving hard nowadays. So, the able body have no excuse to be poor. If we struggle,work hard and pray, we shall banish poverty.
Aregesola commended the General Manager of CSDP, Mrs. Aderonke Abokede
over the achievements of the agency in the state.
