Oyebanji visits ex-governor Oni

• To establish Council of former Governors

Barely one month after the Supreme Court decided the Ekiti governorship election in favour of the incumbent governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, the governor yesterday visited the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the election and his main challenger in court, Segun Oni, at his Ifaki-Ekiti home.

Governor Oyebanji, who arrived the Ifaki residence of the former governor around 10:35am, said the visit was in fulfilment of his pledge to call and visit Oni, whom he described as a brother and leader for whom he had great respect.

The meeting, which lasted an hour, saw the two leaders discussing issues bordering on socio-economic and political development of Ekiti State and how to reposition the state for greater prosperity.

Governor Oyebanji, who expressed appreciation to God for making the meeting possible, described Oni as a role model who had contributed immensely to the development of the state and needed to also benefit from the fruits of his labour.

He took the opportunity to call on the former governor to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), “where he truly belongs and join in the race to reposition the state and join hands with President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu to develop the country.”

Oyebanji informed Oni of his intention to set up a Council of former Governors, whose objective would be how to drive development of the state, advise the incumbent on the best way to run the state from their wealth of experience.

Oni, who together with his wife and associates received Oyebanji, thanked him for the visit, which he said confirmed that Ekiti development was of paramount interest to the governor.
