Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola yesterday urged the electorate not to sell their votes.
Oyetola addressed his supporters in Atakunmonsa West and East during the continuation of his governorship campaign. He warned that opposition parties are going about buying votes and manipulating the process.
He said: “Please vote for APC. If you have not collected your PVC, ensure you do so from tomorrow, it is not proper for members of our party not to have PVC. Don’t let them deceive you; they don’t have anything to offer you. Don’t sell your vote, doing so amounts to selling your future.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recruited corps members and other Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) as ad hoc staff for the July 16 election.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Prof. Abdulganiyu Raji, during a town hall meeting for PWDs at Aenon Suite in Osogbo, said 95 per cent of the ad hoc staffs are corps members.
He explained that after the 2011 election, the process of inclusivity began in the commission as INEC introduced the Braille ballot guide, magnifying glasses, and relocated polling units that are not PWDs-compatible so they can have access to the units.
Raji said: “We have gotten details of 95 per cent of those who will work for us, ranging from people with physical disabilities, albinos, people with hearing impairment, people with visual impairment. We will engage all of them as ad hoc staff for the July 16 governorship election, and ensure they are posted to places that will be comfortable for them.
“They will get used to the exercise and will get to a level where they can even be posted anywhere as we are becoming more matured as far as election is concerned. We are starting now and that will remain, and will be part of the electioneering process.”
