A passenger boat with an unspecified number of people on board has capsized in Zumba, Shiroro council of Niger State.
Several people, including women and children, who were going to the Zumba Kwata Saturday market drowned in the incident.
The boat set sail from Nansa community at about 10am, hit a tree stump and broke in two.

Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Ahmed Ibrahim Inga, confirmed the incident, saying the boat also had foodstuff and livestock.
He said that the number of passengers on board was unknown but added that a body was recovered by divers.
Some persons were reportedly rescued.
