Pastor arraigned in prison for cutting wife’s breast

A pastor of an Ibadan-based church, Mr. Adejare Adebayo, has been remanded in prison for allegedly cutting off his wife’s breast with knife.

The 61-year old man was remanded in Agodi Prison custody, Ibadan, on Monday by a magistrate court.

After cutting off the left breast of his wife, Mrs. Risikayat Adegbule, 43, the woman reportedly suffered excruciating pain from the wound before giving up the ghost after a few days.

The incident happened at Onikankan Village, Ibadan, on December 24 last year.

He was quoted as saying that he cut the other affected breast because his dead wife had earlier suffered cancer in her left breast.

When he appeared before the Chief Magistrate F. Richard of court 2 on Monday, Adebayo pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.

The charge sheet marked Mc/26c/2017 and signed by the prosecutor, Mr. Sunday Ogunremi, reads, “that you Pastor Adejare Adebayo on December 24, 2016 at 12:00 a.m. at Onikankan Village, Ibadan, did unlawfully cause the death of Rukayat Adegbule, 43, by cutting her breast, thereby committed an offence contrary to sec. 316 and punishable under vol.11 sec. 319 of the criminal code cap ix Vol. 11 of the Laws of Oyo State.”

Further investigation revealed that the deceased family members had been looking for her only to be called later by the husband, informing them of her death.

Before adjourning the case to February 14, the Chief Magistrate ordered the accused to be remanded in Agodi Prison.
