‘PDP’s boycott of Osun council poll will not affect its credibility’

PDP

As the leadership of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has fixed October 15 for the conduct of local government election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to boycott the exercise.

The party Chairman, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, said participating in the process would amount to taking part in illegality.

He said: ”We are already challenging the illegality in court, so we can’t be part of any illegality. Never.

“We are a law-abiding party and we have been enlightening even the OSIEC chairman himself. If they are adamant and they still go ahead to conduct the election, of course, the law will take its course, we will not hesitate to sanction whoever has decided to go against the law at the appropriate time.”

The Osun State Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Simon Adebayo, has said non-participation of PDP does not affect the credibility of the council poll.

He said PDP had cogent reason for boycotting the process, but it would not affect the process because other parties would participate in the process.

He said: “We have 18 parties in Osun State and only one of them has vowed to boycott the process. Their action doesn’t cast doubt in the process. It is does not affect the credibility.”
