The Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osita Okechukwu, has said the desperation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may jeopardise the chance of South in producing the next president.
He said Nigerians should hold PDP responsible if the 2023 presidency is not zoned to the South by any of the leading parties.
Okechukwu spoke yesterday in Abuja with reporters while reacting to the condemnation of APC’s indecision to zone the presidency to the South by the Middle Belt Forum, PANDEF, Afenifere and Ohanaeze.
Okechukwu, a founding member of the APC, said the party had been watching with interest the desperation of the PDP to prey on President Muhammadu Buhari’s 12 million vote bank, stressing that as a party, APC had to fine-tune its strategies for the coming general election.
He noted that although it was doubtful that any politician in the PDP could sweep President Buhari’s 12 million votes away, PDP’s desperation to break into Buhari’s 12 million vote bank explained APC’s indecision.
Penultimate Monday, the leaders of the regional socio-cultural groups, Middle Belt Front (MBF), PANDEF, Afenifere and Ohanaeze, had during the Greater Nigeria Conference (GNC) held in Abuja accused APC of playing hanky-panky with the zoning of the presidency to the South.
