Performance, not promises will determine 2023 polls, says Ikpeazu

Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu yesterday gave an insight into what will shape the 2023 elections. He said the polls would be determined by legacies and competencies, not mere politicking and promises.

Ikpeazu, who said the inauguration of the Osisioma flyover and roads in the commercial city of Aba was to silence his critics, said campaign posters would not be allow on projects executed and completed by his administration.

The project christened: “Okezuo Abia Flyover” was undertaken to ease traffic on the Osisioma junction, known for its traffic bottlenecks.

Ikpeazu said: “This is the time of politics. If you want to contest an election in Abia, you must show us what you’ve done before. From your family show us your work. Don’t paste posters on my flyover, streetlight and projects. Place your posters on your projects, not on my own projects.

“Today (yesterday) is a sad day for those who taught that this flyover will never be completed. It is a sad day for those who called it a borehole and called it a center table.

“This is a sad day for the Sanballat and Tobiah (detractors) those who called this flyover ‘Centre Table’, this is a sad day for them. I weep for them as they hide their faces in shame. All those who thought this flyover will not come true, my word for you shame on you.”

According to him, the flyover has solved traffic gridlock in Aba.

Identifying the essence of governance as finding solutions to people’s problems, the governor, congratulated the Aba business community on the delivery the project.

He said the choice of his River’s counterpart to inaugurate the project was because “he is the father of flyovers in Nigeria and understands the value of an interchange”.

Wike commended his host for changing the narratives in the state and that he was proud to be associated with the Abia helmsman.

Works Commissioner Bob Ogu disclosed that the interchange was conceived by Ikpeazu shortly after he took the baton of leadership in 2015.

The actual construction kicked off in 2017.

Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area Chairman Christian Kamalu described the inauguration as historic.
