Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has urged delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to believe in the Nigerian project and avoid selling their votes.
He spoke yesterday in Ikeja while meeting delegates from Lagos State.
Obi said they would not remain delegates forever.
The former governor said it was time to rebuild the nation.
He said he was ready to serve and lift Nigeria from its state of quagmire to that of prosperity.
Obi said: “Those of you who are delegates, don’t listen to me when you vote. Don’t listen to us the aspirants. Take the picture of your children, put it before you and ask yourself how you want them to fare in the next few years. What we are seeing in the country today is the effect of bad leadership.”
He added: “The consequence of the mismanagement of the country is that over 15 million children are out of school, about 55 per cent unemployment rate. The most painful thing is that those largely affected are the young people.
“Our country now owes more money than she can pay. The cost of servicing our debt is too high. And the situation will get worse.
“This has contributed to more poverty. About 100 million people are in poverty. Our country is a consuming and sharing nation, we don’t have a producing formula.”
