Pioneer Movement of Iseyin congratulates new Oyo SSG

The foremost pro-education/development association in Oke Ogun area of Oyo State, the Pioneer Movement Iseyin (PMI), has congratulated the Secretary to Oyo State Government (SSG), Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, on her appointment.

In a statement by the spokesman, Razaq Asaju, signed by the President, Abimbola Ojedokun, the Movement described Prof. Adeyemo’s appointment as well-deserved and a recognition of Iseyin’s worth in the current dispensation.

Extolling the virtues of the new SSG, Ojedokun said Prof Adeyemo is an exemplary academic and Iseyin indigene, being the first female and pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships) at the University of Ibadan (UI).

He the SSG also played a critical role in the state during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ojedokun believes that Prof. Adeyemo would excel in her new position and raise the banner of governance in Oyo as is her hallmark in whatever assignment she had been given.

“Prof. Adeyemo and Pioneer Movement Iseyin have come a long way.

“She is a regular face at the PMI annual lecture in Iseyin where she was the Chairperson at the 2021 edition.

“She was also recognised by PMI with distinguished merit award during the week activities,” the statement added.

Prof. Adeyemo’s research is focused on aquatic and wildlife epidemiology and toxicology, food safety and global public health.

Her research, which has been widely cited, established the contamination of Nigeria’s aquatic system by lead and produced reference database for pollution using GIS technology, spatial analysis and GIS modelling.

In 2011, she was appointed an epidemiological and toxicological expert on the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee (JECFA) and the appointment was renewed in 2016.

Prof. Adeyemo has 106 publications in learned journals.

She has obtained funding /awards towards research and professional development from MASHAYV, Israel (2005), START/PACOM, USA (2006), USDA/USAID, USA (2006), USDA/Foreign Agricultural Service, USA (2008), Nuffic Fellowship Programme Grant, Netherlands (2009), IFS, Sweden (2010-2012) and Schlumberger Foundation, USA (2013-2015).

She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science (2016), Fellow, African Academy of Sciences (2012), Fellow (2010) African Scientific Institute (California, USA) and listed in ASI’s 2011 edition of “Black Achievers in Science and Technology.

She is a 2007 Fellow, Eisenhower Fellowship Programme and Fellow (2002) Leadership for Environment and Development, UK.

She also holds the membership of several other learned societies.
