An action plan aimed at charting a course towards achieving net zero emission in Lagos by 2050 through the implementation of impact-oriented actions across major sectors of the economy has been launched, the state government said yesterday.

State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources Tunji Bello dropped the hint while briefing reporters on the 2022 Climate Change Summit.

According to him, the Summit, which is its ninth, will be action-packed.

Bello said the state will by co-opting the organised private sector from the planning stage to the delivery of the summit.

He explained that the development was in recognition of the impact of the organised private sector on economic growth in the state.

On the theme for the summit – “Integrating climate actions in Lagos State development: Investment opportunities and trade-offs,” Bello said that the theme demonstrates the commitment of the state to Climate Action as a State and how new vistas of opportunities can be opened.

He said: “Recall that last year at the eighth Lagos Climate Change Summit, we launched the Lagos Climate Action Plan. The Action Plan was aimed at charting a course towards achieving net zero emission in Lagos by Year 2050 through the implementation of impact-oriented actions across major sectors of the economy.

“What this simply means is that we have to accelerate the development of a green economy in the state by exploring innovative climate solutions and mobilizing necessary resources required to achieve this target.”
