The African Students Union Parliament (ASUP) has conferred the award of “Pan African Prize for Excellence” on the Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos, Prof. Doknan Sheni.
The “Pan African Prize for Excellence” award is coming in recognition of Prof. Sheni’s dedication and life services in the educational sector and several works in Optometry in Africa and other parts of the world.”
Speaker of the African Students Union Parliament (ASUP), Rt. Hon. Kewul Abel, leading the union’s delegation, said the award followed thorough scrutiny of the leadership of the university and service made to the growth of the university under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor and his team.
The speaker called for shared intellectual abilities towards improving quality of education, not only in Nigeria, but other African countries through exchange programmes and academic conferences because the challenges of education in most African countries are similar.
“Nigeria has all it takes to stand tall in the comity of nations, and if Nigeria gets it right, other African countries definitely will get it right.”
He applauded the efforts made by both the management of the university and Plateau State over the accreditation of programmes of the university.
The Nigerian Coordinator of the union, Comrade Nwankwo Henry said it has embarked on drug abuse campaign in Nigeria to stem the dangerous trend and urged the university to key into the nationwide campaign.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Doknan Sheni thanked the union for recognising his contributions made over the years in Ghana and other African countries.
