Officers of Nigeria Police Force attached to the Aba Police Central Station (CPS), have arrested a member of a notorious four-man armed robbery gang terrorizing residents of Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State.
The suspect identified as Obasi Chibuike was said to have been arrested by the officers who were on night patrol along Milverton, one of the busiest locations in the commercial town. The hoodlum was reportedly wearing police bullet proof jacket which he was using to extort money from motorists when he was apprehended.
Chibuike it was learnt took to his heels on sighting the police team who caught him after a hot chase. Three live cartridges, a bullet proof, a jack knife and an international passport were found on the suspect.
Police sources disclosed that the suspect on interrogation, confessed to be a member of a four-man armed robbery gang terrorizing residents of Aba and its environs.
It was learnt that efforts were ongoing towards arresting other members of the gang and to also recover arms said to be in their possession.
In a related development, police personnel attached to the Omoba Police Division in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state and members of Nkwoudara, Ovungwu in Isiala Ngwa have jointly arrested four suspected robbers.
The four persons identified as Chisom Chimezie (19), Ogbonna Onyeka (22), Kingsley Onyemuru (20) and Chinonso Madugba (18), all indigenes of Osisioma Local Government Area of the state were reportedly arrested at Nkwoudara, Ovungwu in Isiala Ngwa Local Government Area after a distress call was put across to the security agencies.
Items recovered from the suspects include a locally made pistol with two live cartridges, two jack knives, four ATM cards, wallet containing the sum of N9,090.00 and six identity cards.
The Nation gathered that the suspects were identified by one Ikpendu from Ibenku-Ngwa in Osisioma LGA as the people who snatched a brand new Qlink 150 Motorcycle at gunpoint in Umuehim Nvosi Isiala Ngwa South.
Police said investigation was ongoing to unravel other members of the gang.
