Police arrest septuagenarian for killing 67-year-old wife in Adamawa

The Adamawa Police Command has apprehended Jeriel Peter, 71, for allegedly killing his wife, Miltha Jeriel, 67, in the Demsa Local Government Area of the state.

The Command spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Yola, the state capital.

He said the suspect was arrested on November 6, after the incident which occurred two days earlier, following a misunderstanding that started at a beer parlour between the couple.

“During the altercation, the suspect reportedly attacked and stabbed the victim multiple times all over her body with a knife and axe.

“Upon receipt of the distress call, the Command deployed Police Operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Demsa Division to the scene.

“The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital where she was confirmed dead while receiving treatment,” the statement added.

Nguroje said her remains have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Dankombo Morris, subsequently condemned the Miltha’s killing and  directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and ensure diligent investigation and prosecution.

Morris warned against all forms of domestic violence and urged members of the public to seek peaceful resolution of conflict.

He further reassured residents that the Command remains committed to ensuring justice is served, while no offender escapes lawful punishment.
