Police arrest two over alleged illegal firearm possession

Police operatives attached to Badagry Division in Lagos have arrested two suspects over alleged illegal possession of firearms.

The suspects, Sodiq Muftau, 30, alias Mainama, and Surakat Toheeb, 29, alias Elewedu, were arrested at about 6:30pm on Friday.

A statement yesterday by spokesman for the Lagos Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin,  said operatives on routine patrol noticed the suspects’ suspicious movement within Ajara Community, adding that other members of the gang fled upon sighting the police.

“After a thorough search of the suspects, a locally made double-barrelled pistol, nine live cartridges, charms and weed suspected to be indian hemp were found in their possession.

“Investigation revealed that the suspects are members of Eiye Confraternity in Badagry and environs. Effort is in place to unravel more details about their activities and source of the firearm.

Suspects would be arraigned at the conclusion of investigation,” he said.
