The police in Lagos have launched an operation to apprehend armed robbers and kidnappers attacking victims in car hailing services and other public transportation means.
Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alabi said detectives have arrested several suspects, some arraigned in courts.
“We have been doing a lot about it and some of them have been arrested. We paraded two last week. Our operatives are working and very soon it will be a thing of the past,” he said.
He also said operatives were looking into issues of illegal taxation by touts extorting money from the public.
Alabi said any task force on lawful duty usually has policemen assigned to them.
“Talking about illegal collection of taxes, we are dealing with that in a holistic manner and we have been arresting them and getting them arraigned in court. Some of those wearing task force uniforms are working with the police, so it is left for you to fish the odd ones out,” he said.
