Police parade six suspected rapists

Six suspected rapists were yesterday paraded at the Lagos State Police command, Ikeja.

Five of the suspects- Gabriel Obinna, Hector Uguchukwu, Chinedu Ezeanya, Akubueze Nnadozie, Godwin Balogun were alleged to have raped a 24-year-old lady at a hotel in Agege. The sixth suspect, Emmanuel Mbati, 48, allegedly defiled his neighbour’s 18-month-old baby at Owutu, Ikorodu.

According to Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni, the five suspects lured their victim through social media under the guise of being real estate agents.

He said that they lured the lady who was looking for an accommodation to Happy Hour Hotel, where they committed the crime, adding that three other ladies have fallen victims to their gimmicks.

The suspects all denied the allegations. The five insisted that their escapade with the unnamed lady was consensual.

Obinna, who agreed to have pretended to be a woman throughout his conversations with the lady, said that she (victim) came to the hotel hoping to meet a woman with whom she was going to have a threesome with her (Obinna’s) boyfriend.

“This is the second time we are doing this. The first one was two weeks ago and the other, three days ago. We didn’t rape anyone, neither did we extort money from anyone. The girl in question, we only asked her for money for the hotel bills.

“She said she didn’t have any money and then suggested to ask one of her boyfriends for money with the claims that it was for a family issue. It was all her idea. He sent her N10,000. We met on Tinda. I was pretending to be a girl. She sent me her nude pictures, and told me she likes drugs and sex. When she came and we explained to her that I was a guy, we settled it and became friends.

“I even bought her food downstairs. She begged us to delete the pictures and we agreed. I personally asked her if we can have fun and she agreed, thereafter she slept with Hector and I. She was even getting very friendly with Hector, I asked her if she likes him and she said yes that he’s cute.

“By 6pm, she wanted to leave and said N500 would take her home but Hector said it was late and that amount won’t be enough that we should give her N2000. If we had raped her, she would have made some noise or something. She didn’t do anything. We even put her in the bus ourselves. I don’t know why she reported to the police,” he said.

Ugochukwu, who denied being part of the gang said he only followed his friends out of curiosity to know how cocaine looks like.

He claimed that they told him the lady promised to bring cocaine and he was excited because it would be his first time of seeing it.

He admitted that he slept with the lady but that it was not rape, as she told him that she liked him and wanted it.

Ezeanya claimed that most of the ladies they have encountered were Lesbians, adding that there’s a particular social media platform where they hookup.

“They are all lesbians. There’s a particular social network you would meet them. We chat with them and get their nude pictures and blackmail them. No rape. The girl willingly accepted to sleep with some of us. It happened at Happy Hour Hotel at Ajuwon bustop in Agege,” he said.

Mbati, who denied defiling his neighbour’s child, said he was surprised when the baby’s mother after taking her from his house, came back 30 minutes later to accuse him of raping her.

According to him, the baby usually comes to his house to play with his kids.
