Police parade six suspects in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has paraded six suspected homosexual in various parts of the state.

The suspects – Festus Osagiede (24), Hyacinth Imahanrebhor (20), Itama Omon (25), Onwukwe Prince (28), Monye Chukwuma (23) and Osadebe Kelvin (26) – were paraded by Musa Daura, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 5.

Daura said the suspects confessed that they had been committing the crime since 2006.

The AIG said Osagiede allegedly lured Omon into the act after attending a night club that year.

He said homosexuality is an offence against humanity and nature, adding that it is also an abominable act that should be condemned.

Daura said: “After the third suspect (Itama) got drunk, Osagiede invited him to his house and forcefully had him.

“Since then, they have been committing the crime, with others at large, until this month, when …they were arrested by zonal detectives.”

The youngest among the suspects, Hyacinth, said Osagiede threatened to kill him, if he told anyone.

He said: “It all happened late last year when I was returning from a birthday party at night. I was unable to get public transport back home.

“I met Festus on my way; he asked me why I was roaming about. He said I could pass the night at his place.

“That night, he forcefully had me and it got me sick.

“He said if I told anybody, he knew where to find me and my family, that he would kill me.”
