The Rivers Police Command has issued N25.7million cheques to families of 49 officers who died in active service.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Grace Iringe-Koko said the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, issued the cheques as part of the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Insurance Scheme.
The statement said: “As part of the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Insurance Scheme, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Eboka Friday, on 19th July, 2022 presented cheques of N25,700,000.00 only, to families/next of kin of 49 deceased Police Officers, who died while in active service, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman.
“The event took place at the Rivers Command’s Headquarters. The CP appreciated the IGP for improving the welfare of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, and urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money.
“One of the benefiting families, Stephen Raphael Sam, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries and thanked the Inspector-General of Police for the welfare package, promising to use the money for the upliftment of the families left behind by their benefactor”.
