Men of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) of the Rivers State Police Command have rescued a four-year-old boy, Goodnews Tenalo, reportedly abducted last month in Port Harcourt by his mother’s driver, Jeremiah Igiri.
Igiri and two of his suspected accomplices, including a woman, reportedly abducted Goodnews from his Worji home as he returned from school on April 19.
He was allegedly taken to Eliozu in Obio/Akpor Local Government, where he was handed over to the woman, identified as Aunty Blessing.
The victim was said to have been detained for 17 days.
The abductors demanded N20 million ransom from the boy’s mother, Mrs. Georgina Tenalo, a lawyer.
Igiri admitted to the crime, saying he initiated and organised the child’s kidnap.
The suspect said he brought in Blessing and another man to take the boy away after he (Igiri) led the child to the outer gate.
He regretted his actions, claiming he did not know why he did it to his employer, who he said was always good to him.
The police, last Sunday, also rescued in Port Harcourt an 11-year-old Chisom Okafor, from Ndimoko, near Umunze Roundabout in Orumba South Local Government of Anambra State.
Chisom, who was reportedly kidnapped by four hoodlums between 9 am and 10 am on an errand for his father, Kingsley Okafor, in the community.
He was rescued by policemen on a stop-and-search duty at Eliozu Junction at 5 pm.
The hoodlums were suspected to be ritual killers.
They fled from their car after the police forced them to drop the boy.
