Police to clamp down on long Bridge: hawkers

Nigerian-Police

Ogun State Police Command has said it would start arresting hawkers on the Long Bridge for flouting the order outlawing them.

The command last week banned all hawking activities on the bridge following continuous attack of motorists by armed robbers during peak hours

The Nation observed yesterday that hawkers were still plying their trade on the bridge despite the order.

Reacting to the flouting of the order, spokesman for the command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi told The Nation that enforcement would commence today.

According to him, the police gave days of grace for hawkers to vacate the bridge after the order but since some of them were recalcitrant, enforcement of the order would start.

“We will start arresting any hawker seen on the long bridge; we have given them enough grace period,” he said.
