… say he’s trustworthy, caring politician
Political associates of former Governor Olusegun Osoba in their thousands, marked his 77 birthday in a colourful ceremony Friday, eulogising him as one of the country’s “astute and trustworthy politicians.”
The associates including former Deputy Governor of Ogun state, Prince Segun Adesegun, the state Chairman of the resuscitated Social Democraric Party (SDP), chief Olu Agemo, among others, converged at the politician’s Ibara GRA home, Abeokuta, to observe interfaiths prayers for God’s blessings of long life and good health upon him.
But Chief Osoba, the two time governor of the Gateway State and ex – Managing Director of the Daily Times (Nigeria), was absent while Senator Solomon Olalekan Adeola, a Yewa son representing Lagos West Senatorial district at the Senate, was being expected to join others in the celebration as at noon time yesterday.
They hailed the ex – Governor as the “Akirogun of Egbaland,” “Araba of Yewaland,” “Aremo of Ijebuland” among others.
Chief Olu Agemo who coordinated the cutting of the birthday cake, described Osoba as a “politician” that was neither “corrupt” nor “selfish,” stressing that those attributes were the things that endeared the ace reporter – journalist to them.
Agemo also urged old and young politicians in Ogun state – nay Nigeria to emulate Osoba’s exemplary leadership quality and character as an astute grass-root politician in order to deepen and enrich the nation’s democracy.
Also, the ex – Chairman of the state’s Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Olubukunola Onabanjo, spoke glowingly of Osoba.
Olubukunola who is the daughter of the first civilian and late Governor of the state, Chief Bisi Onabanjo, said Osoba had remained a trustworthy and caring politician deserving emulation.
According to her, Chief Osoba was quite supportive of the Onabanjo’s family.
In attendance at the birthday celebration are the governorship candidate of the SDP in the state during the last general elections, Senator Akin Odunsi, his running mate and former Deputy Governor, Prince Segun Adesegun, Hon. Adekunle Adeyemi, Samuel Durojaiye, Chief Bamgbola Awofeso, Chief Pekun Awobona among others.
