President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last night urged the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to embrace accountability, especially financial discipline, in the affairs of the party.

The President spoke at the National Caucus meeting of the party at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu also urged the party’s leadership to encourage active promotion of top-level women and youth participation in the day-to-day running of the party.

The APC National Leader noted that the future of the party belongs to the youths and women, considering their proven dedication and demonstrable prowess during elections.

“As a party, we must handle our finances very well. I hope the financial audit recommended by the National Working Committee (NWC) will help us strengthen our finances better. I thank our governors who contribute generously to the wallet of the party. These times are tough. We are challenged. Please, continue to support the party.

“Our party also needs to be more gender-friendly, and we need more participation from the youths because they own our tomorrow. Let’s get more youths and women involved. They are very dedicated election masters,” the President said.

The President told the party leaders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former National Chairmen, Chief Bisi Akande, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, serving and former governors, and National Assembly members, how he has been working hard to reposition the economy.

In his welcome address, Acting APC National Chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari, hailed President Tinubu for the steps he has taken to reposition the economy for greater productivity and future prosperity.

The acting national chairman presented two memoranda to the National Caucus, appointment of external auditors and filling of vacant party offices.

The two major party positions, which the caucus considered are those of the National Chairman and the National Secretary, which are to be filled by the National Executive Council (NEC) at its meeting today at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
