Boxing promoter Frank Warren has revealed Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury blocked a huge heavyweight clash for fellow fighter Daniel Dubois.
Rumours surrounding a fight between Joshua and Fury were rife in 2022, but the rumours proved needless as the fight once again did not get over the line.
Not only did the back and forth between the two sides affect the schedule of Joshua and Fury, it also caused chaos to others, including Dubois. Promoter Warren revealed all, when admitting his fighter missed out on a blockbuster clash with Dillian Whyte due to the inconclusiveness of Joshua and Fury’s plans.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Warren said: “He [Dubois] is in a position now where he is going to be in big fights. I mean we were trying to do the Dillian Whyte fight last year but because of the moving around, sodding around with the AJ fight, that got moved and I wished it hadn’t of got moved, I wish we could have done that fight.”
“Who knows we may be able to do it next year,” he added.
“I want to keep him busy, I want to keep Joe Joyce busy because they are all quality fighters. At the end of the day they will probably end up wanting to fight each other anyway.” One fight that is on every boxing fans’ lips is a potential meet between two heavyweight champions in Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
After defeating Derek Chisora in December, the Gypsy King called out Usyk after he appeared ringside at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. Revealing that the fight could well take place as soon as March, Warren said: “We have got to move very quickly because we are looking to get this on in early March.
“So we need to move quickly – all of us. We are all on the same page as far as that is concerned, getting it done quickly so we can then announce it and get it on sale.”
