Safety Shooters handball club defeated Tojemarine Academy of Lagos 31-28 yesterday  in a keenly contested game at the Prudent Energy Premier Handball League played at the University of Lagos Sports hall.

It was difficult game for the high flying Safety Shooters who employed  all the tricks in the book to checkmate the rampaging and youthful Lagos side.

Tojemarine showed their potential when they  defeated Lagos Seasiders in Monday’s derby and also proved against Shooters that they can ruffle some feathers.

In other games played in the men’s category, Owena Kings who are still in search of their first victory in the second phase of the leagues, managed a draw with Rima Strikers as the game ended 21-21. Both sides had the chance to win the game but their profligacy in front of goal robbed them of victory.

Leaders Kano Pillars continued their good run in the league beating Benue Buffaloes 31–20. It was an easy game for the Solomon Yola tutored Pillars who were good on both ends of the court. They could have won by a wider margin if the players had taken the chances that came their way but they will be happy that this is another three points in the bag.

Niger United lost ground on the leading teams as they laboured to a 19-19 draw against Confluence Stars. It was a disappointing result for Niger United but a well -deserved one for the Stars, who will be hoping to shine better in subsequent games.

In the women’s category, Safety Babes beat Seasider Babes 31–25. Safety Babes who are currently topping the table will hope to continue their good run as the competition enters day four today (Wednesday).
