For nine consecutive months, Aruna Quadri held on to the men’s ranking in the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation (CTTF) ranking list released for April 2017, as the best player among the players from the Commonwealth nations.
Quadri who has been seeded 31st in the men’s singles list of the 2017 ITTF World Championships is expected to champion Africa’s quest for honours this year against the world’s best in Dusseldorf, Germany from May 29 to June 5.
Since August 2016 when he overtook Singapore’s Gao Ning as the best player, Quadri has remained the highest ranked player followed by England’s Paul Drinkhall.
Drinkhall is ranked second behind Quadri, while Singapore’s Gao Ning is third on the ranking list.
Also, Africa’s most decorated table tennis star and former Commonwealth Champion, Segun Toriola is rated 12th as the second Nigerian that made the top 20 in Commonwealth.
Meanwhile, Quadri will lead Jura Morez to face his continental rival- Egypt’s Omar Assar when both players clash in the French table tennis league today.
From 15 league matches played so far, Jura Morez has won five matches and lost 10 to garner 31 points to occupy fifth place on the table.
Assar’s Istres is battling to escape relegation as the team is second from bottom on the league table and they have 25 points from 15 matches.
