Reps panel pledges adequate housing

Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Housing, Jibrin Abdulmumin, has expressed commitment towards ensuring provision of adequate housing.

He spoke at a meeting with stakeholders in housing at National Assembly in Abuja.

Abdulmumin said the committee would address MOFI Real Estate Investment Fund as well as Renewed Hope Housing Project, among others.

He said there was a need to address housing finance.

The lawmaker noted that the committee had instructed Central Bank to stop application of single obligator limit to primary mortgage banks in respect of National Housing Fund due to its implications.

The lawmaker said the committee was going to ensure it uses legislative instrument to address the issues and ensure a better life for Nigerians.

Managing Director of Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Dr Takang Armstrong, said housing is a fundamental right of every Nigerian, hence it is prioritised by President Bola Tinubu.

“We are committed to ensuring Nigerians get better housing, regardless of social status. “Our role is to serve as investment and asset manager for Federal Government. And we have a responsibility to mobilise capital in government, private sector and international community to address priority sectors.

“Housing is one of those. When we think about housing, it’s not just about the social impact it has in terms of housing our people, but a major stimulant for the economy,” he said.
