Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has said the government will support the Port Harcourt Golden Jubilee Polo Tournament.
Speaking during a visit by the leadership of the Port Harcourt Polo Club, he said the tournament, which will attract polo players from Argentina, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, would place the state on the international business map.
Wike said: “We will support this tournament because it will give us the opportunity to highlight the state’s potential to the international community.
“It will also project Rivers in positive light, with international sports and business personalities seeing first-hand the peace and security that drive the state’s growth.”
He added that his administration will partner polo administrators to enhance the game.
The governor urged the club management to shield themselves from politics.
The club President, Mr. Ibiwari Pepple, said the tournament would hold between January 8 and 14.
He said it would enjoy wide coverage on Super Sports, AIT and Channels Television because of its importance.
Pepple said well-known players from Argentina, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates would attract business concerns to the state.
