The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Rivers United along with Kwara United , began their continental campaigns with an identical winning margins in the first legs of their preliminary round home matches yesterday.
While Rivers United whipped FC Watanga of Liberia 3-0 in their CAF Champions League game , Kwara United brushed aside AS Douanes of Niger 3-0 in their CAF Confederation Cup tie.
In Port Harcourt, the Pride of Rivers scored the first goal in the eighth minute through newly signed Kenechukwu Agu who just crossed over from Enugu Rangers, to send the crowd at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium into frenzy.
Chidiebube Duru doubled the lead in the 18th minute while Ghanaian import, Paul Acquah made it three just before the centre referee blew the half time break whistle for the third goal.

Both teams couldn’t score in the second half as the game ended with Rivers United taking the three first half goals to Monrovia ahead of the return leg fixed for this weekend in Liberia.
Meanwhile, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, the dominant Harmony Boys went into the lead as early as the fifth minute through Paul Samson who slotted home a rebounded after AS Douanes goalkeeper failed to save Wasiu Jimoh’s ferocious shot.
Jimoh was on hand for the second goal for the home side when he converted a penalty in the 18th minute and he struck again five minutes to the end of the first half.
An entertaining second half produced no goal as Kwara United takes a three- goal lead into the second leg next Sunday in Niamey.
