Rotary Ikeja celebrates golden jubilee

ACTIVITIES marking the 50thanniversary of the Rotary Club, Ikeja have kicked off in Lagos. At a briefing yesterday, its President Adeniyi Adelaja said the club, founded with 25 members on August 31, 1967 with one Nigerian Chief A. Adesigbin on its eighth-member Board, has produced eight district governors, hosted Rotary’s International president and given birth to 60 clubs, among others.

It is also a major donor to the Rotary Foundation, which handles the polio eradication project worth millions of naira in the country, built Isolo Community Centre, and a clinic at the Police Children School in MOPOL 20 Barracks, donated several items to secondary schools in the state and has a free micro credit scheme worth over N10million in Isolo, Agidingbi and other communities, he said, adding that every Christmas Day the club visits and donates medical items to the patients of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

‘’The Rotary Club of Ikeja can look back with pride in the 50 years of its existence. It is our wish that the next 50 years will witness an even more meaningful and fruitful epoch within the club, for its members, its immediate community, Ikeja and indeed our  dear nation,’’ Adelaja added.

As part of the year-long celebration of the anniversary, the club will today, the anniversary day, at the Lagos Airport Hotel, hold a Family reunion for its members’ families and the club members it helped to found.
