Rotary International yesterday announced the take-off of its yearly Family Health Day in Lagos.
District 9110 Governor Dr Wale Ogunbadejo said the three-day event, which takes off today, would offer about 170 people across the country free medicare worth $200,000. These include testing, treatment and drugs for various diseases, such as HIV, Hepatitis, diabetes, hypertension and tuberculosis. Others are eye cataract, dental care and cancer and malaria.
He urged Nigerians to avail themselves of the opportunity to go for screening, adding that many died because they did not go for check-ups on time.
Regular check-ups, he said, was good for healthy living.
Rotarians for Family Health and AIDS Prevention Committee Chairman Omobolanle Oyebola said the aim of the programme was to enable people know their health status. He said it would not only cover Nigeria, but that it would be extended to the West African sub-region.
According to Oyebola, over 60 centres had been created for the programme.
