Ruling house alleges contempt over monarch’s installation

Monarch

Representatives of Omobo branch of Odunburu Ruling House of Itire in Lagos State have threatened to initiate contempt proceedings against Onitire of Itire, Oba Tajudeen Ishola Odubiyi and Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Emmanuel Bamgboye.

They alleged the monarch was installed despite a pending order of Lagos State High Court in Ikeja.

The Ruling House said the injunction was issued in a suit: ID/3669GCNW/2017, in which parties were ordered to maintain the status quo.

The claimants are Alhaji Walim Irawo, Chief Teslim Apena, Chief Rasheed Apena, Taiwo Ogundipe, Mrs Afusat Williams and Chief Jimoh Irawo.

They sued for themselves and on behalf of Omobo branch of the Odunburu Ruling House of Itire.

The defendants are Chief Adisa Olatunji; Mushin council chairman; commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs; Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Attorney-General, Moyosore Onigbanjo.

The claimants, in their written addresses before Justice Yetunde Pinheiro, prayed for a declaration that Omobo is a branch in Odunburu Ruling House.

They prayed the court to hold that the Odunburu Ruling House is made up of seven branches: Lesho, Owunro, Aina, Abija Eru, Ejolabi, Omobo, Oluwole, and Orebiyi.

The claimants sought a declaration that they are descendants of Omobo branch of Odunburu Ruling House.

They prayed for “a declaration that the first claimant, being a descendant of Odunburu Ruling House, is entitled to be considered eligible to contest for the stool of Onitire of Itire”.
