The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) yesterday inaugurated FRSC Safety Cadet clubs in 11 schools in Anambra State, bringing the number of such clubs to 43.
Sector Commander Sunday Ajayi, who performed the ceremony in Awka, said the club was enabled by the FRSC Establishment Act.
He said with more cadet clubs in schools, the corps would entrench the culture of safety in children at an early age.
Ajayi, who decried the loss of lives and dreams to crashes, urged the pupils to, as safety ambassadors, prevail on their parents to drive with care.
“Children are the worst victims of accidents. Some have lost their parents and others have their parents incapacitated.
“We are inaugurating this club in schools as part of our resolve to promote safety among children and encourage the teaching of road safety lessons in schools.
“This will enable you know the elements of road safety, so that you will encourage your teachers, parents and adults to drive according to rules.
Director of Schools Dr. Ray Offor hailed FRSC for its commitment to safety issues.
He said the clubs would be encouraged to enhance safety.
A pupil, Miss Amaka Duru, said she had learnt a lot from the club.
