Safety expert organises sensitisation campaign

A safety expert, Mr. Bob Festus Onukwube, at the weekend, organised a sensitisation campaign to create awareness for motorists on the need to apply safety measures.

The programme, organised in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Rivers State, was taken to termini and bus stations in Port Harcourt.

Onukwube said he derived joy in investing money, time and energy in a project that would reduce accidents.

He said the campaign was to create awareness for drivers and passengers on the need to be cautious and to abide by driving rules, to prevent accidents.

The safety expert noted that most of his mates kidnapped for ransom, bombing oil and gas facilities and other crimes, but he chose to contribute to the safety of human lives.

He urged the government, individuals and the private sector to reduce crimes through contributions and encouragement to youths, saying companies and individuals who promised to support the campaign disappointed him.

Onukwube said: “I embarked on this project because of the concern I have for others. Each time I see accident on the road, I feel I owe the society a responsibility as a safety officer. I know for every accident, there must be a human error.

“So there need to educate people, especially drivers, on how to adhere to safety measures while driving. Even passengers need safety education because if they are educated on safety rules, they can correct drivers if they are going astray.”
