As this year’s Ramadan fast is gradually coming to an end, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has lauded the roles of women and youths in governance.
He said it was impossible for any government aiming to succeed to ignore the contributions of women and youths.
Sanwo-Olu addressed Muslim faithful, who attended the Laylatul Qadr (Night of Majesty), organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, in conjunction with the First Family of Lagos State, at the Lagos House Mosque Ground, Alausa, Ikeja.
He said his administration took cognisance of women and youths in the constitution of the current Executive Council and in other appointments, adding that his second term would also give a prime place for women and youths.
The governor, who alluded to the aptness of the lectures delivered by Muslim clerics at the event, stressed that protecting and educating the girl-child should be the responsibility of dutiful Muslim parents.
He advised parents to provide for their children.
Appreciating the Muslim community for backing his administration since inception, Sanwo-Olu pleaded for their continuous support and prayers, “especially at this period of Ramadan fast.”
He described this year’s Ramadan fast, coinciding with Christians’ annual Lenten season, as symbolic and an indication that only prayers could make him exceed the expectations of Lagosians and implement impactful projects and policies.
One of the guest lecturers, Sheik Abdul Hakeem Lawal, urged Muslims to make prayers a way of life.
Delivering a vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mrs. Lolade Aina, thanked Allah “for the privilege given us to be alive to witness this event.”
