Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged residents to offer prayers for the repose of the souls of fallen heroes and the bereaved families.
He spoke while addressing Christian leaders, serving and retired military personnel and members of the Nigerian Legion, during an Interdenominational Divine Service held at Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa to commemorate the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
“Let me take this opportunity to ask Lagosians to offer prayers for the repose of souls of fallen heroes, who have laid down their lives for the sovereignty and peace of this country,” the governor said.
He sought support for members of the Nigerian Legion and relatives of deceased military personnel, saying no compensation in kind or cash could erase the pains of the deaths of the deceased gallant military officers.
Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, said his administration would not relent in supporting members of the armed forces, both serving and retired.
Home Affairs Commissioner Prince Anofiu Elegushi said the country owed members of the armed forces gratitude for their selfless service to ensure the protection of the country from internal or external threat.
The preacher at the Interdenominational Service, Ven. Francis Falako, a priest from the Lagos Mainland Anglican Diocese, enjoined Nigerians for forget the unpleasant situations of the past.
He said God “has promised to do a new thing for Nigerians this year.”
