Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has emphasized the need for an affirmative action on domestic, gender and sexual violence which is destroying the fabric of our society.
Governor Sanwo-Olu gave the charge in his address delivered at the Governor’s Award/Commendation Night held Friday night and organized by the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to round up the month of awareness against sexual and gender based violence in the state.
The governor who was represented by his wife, Dr (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu charged stakeholders in the justice sector to work harder and come up with more innovative ways of fighting incidences of sexual and gender based violence in order to achieve the state’s goal of eradicating the vice in the society.
”I charge you to work even harder and come up with more innovative ways to achieve our goals. Our policy of zero tolerance on issues of gender based violence is non-negotiable and we are willing and ready to collaborate with organisations to achieve these loft goals of building a greater Lagos in which sexual and gender based violence (SGBV will have no place.
Earlier, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) explained that it was in order to combat the prevalence of sexual and domestic violence, that the state government is giving priority to adequate reporting adding that concerted efforts are being made towards the prosecution of reported cases.
