Linda Manufacturing Company Ltd., producers of the popular Expression weavon, has called on security agencies to save the firm from unwarranted attacks and disruptive activities by sacked unionists.
The unionists, the firm alleged, have halted productions for over two weeks in the company, the largest producers of female cosmetics under the guise of industrial unrest.
Operation Managers of the firm, Monday Nnah, told reporters that the sacked unionists have continuously prevented workers from gaining access to the firm’s factory located at Iju road, Lagos.
The action, he said, followed the sack of eight unionists who instigated workers at the weavon and brushage sections of the factory on January 26, to vandalise company properties.
The vandalisation of the production section, he stated, cost the firm over N400million with computers, CCTV cameras, printers, raw materials and printers looted by some workers.
Nnah said the workers were instigated by the union officials who claimed to be aggrieved with poor ventilation, exploitation by supervisors and sundry matters in the firm.
“When we asked them if they ever communicated same to us, they answered in the negative. Yet, we decided to look into the complaints in a week.
“Hours later, they called out the workers again and sparked off another protest.”
He added that the unionists refused to accept a query issued to them, claiming even the Managing Director was not competent to question their agitations.
Nnah said another query issued them was not replied, forcing the firm to terminate their employment.
Since the sack order, Nnah alleged that the unionists have “forced themselves into the company premises and chased workers out of the factory,” on a daily basis.
The Operations Manager fingered the National President of NUCFRLANMPE, Comrade Boniface Isok, for the industrial unrest.
Isok, according to Nnah, has not deemed it fit to call the workers to order but threatened to picket the firm.
When contacted, Isok denied the allegations, saying he had nothing to do with the unrest.
