The President, National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria (NASWDEN), John Egaji Obe has assured Nigerians that the association is in partnership with the Police, Nigerian Security Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), and other law enforcement officers to checkmate activities of scavengers.
Obe said a centralized dump will be set up in the six geo-political parts of the country, with all the dumpsters being licensed, a police post attached to all dumpsters for proper management and checkmating of scraps and waste entering the site.
He said the association has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment for the setting up of these dumpsters in different states round the country.

“The association has been on ground for a while now, as revenue returns are made to the government through the Ministry of Labour and Productivity. The government does not create jobs, what it does is to create enabling environment for businesses to thrive. The government’s benefit is taxation which the association is generating and giving back.
“We are overwhelmed with reports of these scavengers stealing manholes, generators, household use and others. The stolen materials are going somewhere; by the time these legal dumpsters are established, it will be easy to track them, because they will have nowhere to take them to without being caught,” Obe said.
