A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja was on Thursday told how a 70- year- old man, Tajudeen Shoneye, sexually abused an eight- year- old girl for three days consecutively.
At the resumed trial of the defendant, a witness, who is a consultant Pediatrician with the Lagos General Hospital, Gbagada, said the victim was brought to the hospital for a medical check up in 2013.
The Pediatrician said when the girl was brought to the hospital in June 18, 2013, she was limping and looked pale.
She said, “I work with the Gbagada General Hospital and have been very familiar with children working as Pediatrician for over 10years.
“In June 2013, a little girl was brought to the hospital. She was eight years old. It was in the evening and she came with two female adults. The women told me they were the girl’s teachers in the school and said they were worried with the way she always withdrawn to herself.
“So I examined her medically and discovered that her vagina had bruises and her hymen was broken. This meant she had sexual contact with somebody.”
Led in evidence by the prosecutor, Akin George, the witness said she carried out series of test on the victim.
“I asked her to run other tests like urine test and HIV test. She complained that she was sexually abused for three days by an old man in her neighbourhood. So we sent her for series of other tests,” she added.
The defendant was first arraigned on May 13 this year on a one count charge of “defilement” of an under aged girl.
The offence, according to the prosecution, was contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and was ordered to be remanded in prison custody by the trial judge, Justice Atinuke Ipaye.
The judge later adjourned the matter till June 4 for cross-examination.
