Sergeant Monday Njoketi, of 22, police mobile force, Oduduwa, Ikeja, GRA, has been allegedly duped of N160,000 by Akpati Henry Chibuzor.
Njoketi said he became friends with the man who claimed to be a retired police officer in March.
According to him, “Chibuzor came to our office; he told me he was a retired police officer and this made me to respect him and we became friends. He often times came to my office and I got closer to him. This made us to talk about a whole lot of things including my brother who intends travelling abroad.”
Chibuzor, he said, promised to help with the visa application of his brother to Germany.
“I mailed photocopy of my brother’s passport data page and some other passport pages to his email, akpatiegochibuzor@yahoo.com. He also requested for some other details which I gave to him. He said he would be my brother’s guarantor.
“As part of the visa application process, he told me to send N40,000 to bank account 2032180345, which I did. He promised to be the sponsor and told me to take my brother to a place near airport for 10 days medical test for those going to Germany and we were given the medical card on completion of the test.
“He later told me that all the processing is complete, but I will pay N600, 00. He said I could pay half first and balance up after my brother gets to Germany. I paid N120, 000 to his bank account 0130681903. He complained that the money was too small, but since I made the payment, he has stopped picking my calls, neither does he call. His phone numbers are, 08034253281 and 08094774504.”
Njoketi said the case had been reported to Olosan Police station. He described the man as a fraudster, saying many people have been complaining about him using the account to defraud them.
“We tracked his address at Ikotun-Egbe but he no longer lives there. His brother whom we met there said he has relocated to Delta State and that his family is running away from him because many people complain about his dubious ways,” he said.
Chibuzor in a phone conversation with our reporter last Thursday promised to pay back Njoketi’s money when he comes to Lagos this week.
“I am not in Lagos, I will be back in Lagos next week, I will call him and give him back his money,” he said.
