Sheriff’s boast of getting Buhari out empty, says Kano governor

KANO State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has described as an empty threat, the claim by the new Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sherrif, that his party will remove President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

He said he was confident the former Borno State governor would eventually work for the interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at an APC media roundtable in Abuja, the governor threw his weight behind state police, saying with the security situation, there was no better time than now.

The governor, who said he did not like controversy, said: “I will like to tell you that it is the normal utterances of those who want to impress their followers. But I believe it is an empty threat.

“Looking at the antecedents of the chairman himself, I think he is a defector. He is always on the move in changing from one party to the other.  When he was in All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) for eight years, he was working for the PDP.

“The APC started with him and he went back to the PDP and we were happy. In the long run, he will work for us.

“That is what I believe.  We are happy because we believe in the long run he will work for us. Find out his history, you will believe me.”

On state police, he said: “In view of the situation, I think there is no better time than now because the security requires intelligence.

“It involves people who are conversant with the society, the tradition and the culture. They are in a better position to assist in terms of surveillance, collecting information and being effective.  So, I think the idea of a state police is something that we need to pursue.”
